My Original sign..(sigh) it had turned yellow over the last 4 years and ...
I just wanted to update my sign.
I sanded the old sign down so it was smooth again. Then I painted it with a can of on sale exterior white with primer paint. Added the stripes after measuring as well as I could to make it as even as I could.
Taping off the ones I wanted to keep white and then I made use of an old paint I had of deep purple (mixed in some of the white primer paint to make it lighter)
This part was easy .... its when you add the letters etc.. you start realizing that what you put on one side you have to put on the other side. Oh Lordy ain't nobody got time for that! Since the whirlygigs are free handed they do look different but basically the same.
{'cept that first one looks like it has a fancy squirrel face up in the crown area}
Ok so ~ then I went to the printer and decided on a font and printed out the letters. Using the old method of scratching a pencil over the letters and tracing around them with a pen to transfer the letters to the sign.
{freaking out 'cause I didn't like the first icon I transferred and painted onto the sign}
I took the sign down {...thinking all the neighbors were looking at me crazy!! Or thinking that my assistant (brother) was my husband, like they all thought before.. was making me take it down.}
I brought it back to the porch to paint the big area I had a dumb looking icon on. I painted it white. Then I selected a font really quick and really bold and easy enough to paint. Placed it where it needed to be and then sanded over the whole sign and poly coated it after that. Done deal.
{
Yes, we did set the posts and figure the chain system out ourselves...in 2009 when the salon first began.}
So all is well and I hang the sign.
I'm proud of the big bold font.
THEN I see that it rather resembles and old Saloon font! I can live with that...I'm squirrelly after all right?!
"Salon" Awe nuts!!! I thought it said Saloon!!
First customer after the big sign change said " Why did you buy a new sign?! " Right.
I miss the old one too.
Guess I should take it as a compliment...she thought I actually paid someone to do that :).
{The salon is located in Van , Texas & it can be found on Facebook }
