This year rose bush was loaded so now I wait patiently for the rose hips to develop......

I'm going to try my hand at making rose hip jelly or tea or both :)

The Cottage

Finally was able to get this close which isn't nearly close enough for a good photo. These bluebirds are just beautiful. I think they are missing Ms. Willings bluebird houses this year. I'm going to have some by summers end for them in my yard. Hopefully they will return next year.

The Kentucky Wonder beans have peeked through the soil.  Maybe looking forward to the rain?

Here in Van Tx its not rained much at all though
we keep seeing those rain clouds passing by.

Surely all the plants will be asking the Lord to drop some here. There is nothing like the rain to make the plants look stunning!

The Salon Cottage will be undergoing some changes this Summer. It will finally be getting its purple painted exterior. Can't wait to share the results. There are so many changes happening around here! Enjoy the photos and I'll be back to share more soon.

Wishing for Rose Jelly

This little rose and hip showed up December 3rd. The hip made me wonder about rose hip tea:

Photo above is from: http://www.nourishtheroots.com/2013/09/rose-hip-tea.html A very colorful and informative blog.

and rose hip jelly : http://homeislavenderscones.wordpress.com/2010/08/12/rosehip-jelly-alaska-version/#comment-134

I want to save these for reference when I find me an abundance of rose hips. This is going to be fun!

Brass Ruler

Found this recently at an estate sale its an old desk 6" brass ruler I think its just so handy not to mention BRASS! I paid under .50 for it but I'm gifting it to someone I think will like it and use it.
Before clean up YES it had a nice aged "pantina" like a old penny...but with time it will come right back. The one its for will appreciate the shiny new penny look on his desk.

Memo Board

Sorry folks the photos on my blog are always taken with my cell camera.
Fish Fillet board I had purchased for my DNL she never used it so wa-la! its a memo board.

Equipped with its own treadle machine medallion and rusty key (from a home down the road I need mine) The key idea was because my DNL was holding and admiring the bathroom key one day.I told her please do leave it in place cause we actually need it to lock the bathroom. So naturally I had to get her one of her very own. The medallion was on an old treadle machine that I re-purposed long ago. I've always liked the look and feel of it so I thought it would be a nice addition to her board.
Also picked her up a hostess apron :
She adores aprons and looks so cute wearing them.

The Making of a Booth

Making a booth rental space in the cottage salon. Trying to use things that I've already bought and planned to re-invent/diy/paint/etc so here is the before.  A girls desk from the late 60's or early 70's and I only know that because my best friend got the complete set and I was so jealous :)

I had previously painted the mirror green it used to look like this:
..and had a lot of sticker stuck on it ... it was from a child's dresser.
Instead of painting it again I decided to go with chestnut color for the desk to match it as much as possible.

Here is the result:

I can't decide which way to hang the mirror ... I like it as it is pictured above but if I do it
This way:
there would be more room to hang things a stylist needs or put some slim shelves to the sides.

And I'm thinking it makes the small space it is in look more spacious.

After all this I just need to add the salon tools / chair and somebody will be able to rent this space.
Which would make the purple squirrel happy.
Purple Squirrels need to be happy.

Covered Buttons

Is this the best way to make covered buttons? I am making 20 more but I think the cost is a bit high ?? 5 buttons @ $3. w/tax I am making these for the tufts in the back of the love seat I am working on. Wondering only for the next project as this will have to do for this one...since I'm almost finished.
